Preventative Care with Functional Medicine

Functional medicine and conventional medicine represent two distinct approaches to healthcare. Conventional medicine typically focuses on treating symptoms with pharmaceuticals or surgeries, often without delving into the underlying causes of illness, which can create dependence on pharmaceutical drugs. In contrast, functional medicine takes a more holistic approach, aiming to identify and address the root causes of health issues and acknowledging the possibility of multiple factors influencing a patient's illness. It prioritizes the prevention and restoration of whole-body homeostasis.

By examining the interplay between genetics, environment, and lifestyle factors, functional medicine practitioners create personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual's unique needs. Rather than simply masking symptoms, functional medicine seeks to optimize overall health and wellness by promoting balance and addressing imbalances in the body.

This approach emphasizes prevention and patient empowerment, viewing the body as a complex, interconnected system that requires comprehensive care to achieve optimal function and vitality.

ARRAY 11 Chemical Immune Reactivity Screen

The Array 11 Chemical Immune Reactivity Screen is an invaluable tool recommended for patients exhibiting various immune-related conditions. It aids in identifying the loss of immune tolerance triggered by xenobiotic exposure, potentially leading to autoimmune reactivity. This test offers insights into autoimmune diseases and related family histories by assessing chemical sensitivities, intolerance, and abnormal immune function. Moreover, it assists in formulating guidelines for avoiding specific chemicals to mitigate the risk of autoimmune processes, making it indispensable for comprehensive patient care.

Array 10-90

The Array 10-90 panel evaluates immune reactions to 90 of the most commonly consumed raw and/or modified foods, food enzymes, lectins, and artificial food additives tested as part of the Array 10 panel. It can detect dietary-related triggers of autoimmune reactivity and monitor the efficacy of customized dietary protocols.

Array 11 Chemical Reactivity Screen

The Chemical Immune Reactivity Screen, also known as Array 11, goes beyond conventional tests by measuring the immune response to chemicals bound to human proteins rather than merely identifying chemical exposure levels. This unique approach provides valuable insights into an individual's health risk from chemical exposure and its impact on the body. Array 11 assesses a comprehensive range of chemical toxins that can bind to body tissues due to environmental exposure, offering a detailed analysis of the antigens tested. It is particularly beneficial for patients experiencing increased chemical sensitivity or intolerance, abnormal immune system functioning, autoimmune conditions, or with a family history of autoimmune disease. Clinically, Array 11 helps identify the loss of immune tolerance associated with chemical exposure, guides the avoidance of specific chemicals to mitigate autoimmune reactivity, and monitors the effectiveness of clinical management for patients.

Array 12: Pathogen-Associated Immune Reactivity Screen

The human body is home to a vast variety of microorganisms that help keep you healthy, so long as it is well balanced. In your gut alone, there are thought to be at least ten times more microbes than there are human cells in your whole body. These micro-organisms regulate many important bodily functions aid your immune system in developing and maturing in infancy and childhood, and help keep you healthy throughout your lifetime. The human microbiota is influenced by many factors, including genetic makeup, diet, environmental exposures, stress, sleep, and activity. However, new industries, new chemicals and drugs, and new foods can overload your immune system, effectively overwhelming your body with more and more environmental stressors. This can lead to your microbiome becoming imbalanced, which can open the floodgates to invading pathogens, acute infections, as well as colonization by non-beneficial bacteria, viruses, yeasts, and parasites. As your immune system attempts to restore balance, it can end up "attacking" your own cells, tissues, and/or organs that have been infected or contaminated with infectious agents. This may or may not eventually result in autoimmune reactivity. Array 12 assesses a variety of infectious agents as triggers of autoimmunity: those that are found in the body as well as those that we may be exposed to in our environment. These include oral pathogens, gastrointestinal pathogens, gut parasites, bacterial and stealth pathogens, environmental molds, viral pathogens, and tick-borne pathogens, including Borrelia burgdoferi, which is known to cause Lyme disease.

Array 5: Systemic Autoimmune Reactivity Screen

Many studies show that the autoimmune antibody can be elevated in the blood many years before symptoms occur. Cyrex Labs has now developed its Cyrex Labs Array #5, a comprehensive autoimmune screen that helps in the early detection of autoimmunity. If detected early, natural and/or medical interventions can begin in order to minimize long-term illness and promote a better quality of life. Multiple autoimmune antibodies are tested in this panel due to the fact that more than 40% of those with autoantibodies in one area have autoantibodies in other areas of the body. The Cyrex Array #5 tests the gamut of autoimmune antibodies in order to minimize "missing" a potential autoimmune condition.
